Privacy Policy

Summary: WPStack Detector does not collect, sell, or share your personal data. All website analysis runs locally in your browser. We do not operate servers that receive your browsing data.

This Privacy Policy describes how WPStack Detector (“the Extension”, “we”, “our”) handles information when you use our Chrome browser extension. By installing and using the Extension, you agree to this policy.

1. Who We Are

WPStack Detector is a browser extension that detects website technologies — with a focus on WordPress themes, plugins, and related stacks. The Extension is provided as-is for informational purposes.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
Browsing history or a list of websites you visit
Account credentials or payment information
Analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking data
IP addresses or device identifiers sent to our servers

The Extension has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no backend database.

3. How the Extension Works

When you click the Extension icon on a webpage, analysis runs entirely on your device:

The active page’s HTML, scripts, and stylesheets are inspected locally
Detection results are displayed in a sidebar on that page
No scan results are uploaded to us or any third party controlled by us

Scans occur only when you explicitly activate the Extension. We do not scan pages in the background.

4. Browser Permissions

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions solely to perform technology detection:

Permission	Purpose
activeTab	Access the current tab only when you click the Extension icon
scripting	Inject the analysis engine and sidebar UI on demand
storage	Temporarily cache response headers per browser tab during your session
cookies	Read cookie names on the visited site (e.g. framework session cookies) — not cookie values sent to us
webRequest	Observe HTTP response headers (read-only) such as `Server` and `X-Powered-By`
host access	Allow scanning on websites you choose to analyze

Session data stored via storage remains on your device and is cleared when the browser session ends or the tab is closed.

5. Third-Party Services

When you use the Extension, your browser may connect to external services to enrich detection results or display icons. These requests go directly from your browser to the third party — not through our servers:

WordPress.org API — plugin names and icons for detected WordPress plugins
ps.w.org (WordPress CDN) — plugin icon images
cdn.simpleicons.org — technology brand icons
Google Favicon Service — website favicon fallback
The website you are scanning — e.g. fetching /wp-content/themes/{theme}/style.css for theme metadata (same-origin)

When you click DNS Lookup or Web Hosting buttons, your browser opens third-party websites (DNSChecker.org, Host.io) in a new tab. Those sites operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control.

6. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

7. Data Security

Because we do not collect or store user data on our servers, there is no central database of user information to breach. All processing occurs within your browser’s sandboxed extension environment, subject to Chrome’s security model.

8. Your Choices

Uninstall: Remove the Extension at any time via chrome://extensions/
Disable: Turn off the Extension without uninstalling
Control scans: The Extension only runs when you click its toolbar icon

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
